Mridanga

Mridanga drum aka Shri Khol is very old instrument from Bengal, India. This instrument (not to be confused with the Mridangam which is a similar South Indian instrument) has its roots in the rich Gaudiya tradition of Mayapur (a famous city in Bengal and an international place of pilgrimage). The saint and incarnation of Lord Shri Krishna, Shri Caitanya founded the Gaudiya Vaisnav tradition over 500 years ago to promote love of Godhead through the congregational chanting of His holy names in a musical style known as Kirtan or Bhajan.

Students who take this course will learn the rich art of Kirtan through the practice of the Mridanga drum.
